'Caló is the sole candidate, but we do not rule out a tripartite leadership'
Following the dissident CGT meeting at the Empire theatre in the City, health workers union head Héctor Daer assured that UOM head Antonio Caló is the sole candidate to lead the anti-Moyano umbrella union confederation but did not dismiss the possibility of a tripartite leadership that represents all sectors.
“Caló is, at least until today, the candidate to be secretary general, although his bid hasn’t been made official nor discarded,” Daer explained. “That wasn’t a topic to be discussed in today’s meeting,” he said as he addressed reporters at the Empire theatre-
“Caló’s bid depends on what we want what to express in our leaders and will be decided on the day we vote for our new authorities,” he added.
Daer made it clear that negotiations between the anti-Moyano faction to achieve a tripartite leadership will continue until the election congress. “Nothing has been ruled out. Until October 3rd we will keep on working with the highest number of union organizations and thus try to sustain the unity of unionism and give legitimacy to the CGT.”
The White and Blue CGT led by Luis Barrionuevo met today, despite the leader’s denial to attend the meeting, at the Premier Theatre today in order to discuss upcoming elections.
The dissident labour umbrella union leaders came together and decided on October 3 for the election that will decide who will lead the union, which runs parallel to that of Hugo Moyano.
It was said that some two thousand people were attending the meeting, with 120 unions present
Barrionuevo spoke today during radio talks and called for “unity” within the unions as the “anti-Moyano” elections approach.
