CFK defends exchange rates, import controls

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner blasted those sectors that demand a devaluation and defended the exchange rate and imports' controls saying they are "vital" for the industrialization, during a nation-wide televised speech from the Industry Day celebration held at Tecnópolis, in Villa Martelli district.

Besides, she promised a new Workers' risk insurance (ART) law for next year, and proposed the actualization of the compensation payments at the wage Council.

"It's the first time that unions claim a devaluation, when workers are the ones that could be affected, so we need a balanced currency exchange rate," the Head of State affirmed.

Fernández de Kirchner admitted that the productive sector "still is dependent on the imports," so "a dollar devaluation will have a negative impact."

Regarding the industrialization, the president assured that "it is not a variable of the economic model, but a part of a country's political project."

Most of the national ministers are already present at the celebration, accompanied by the head of the UIA, José de Mendiguren, the leader of the CAME, Osvaldo Cornide, and the head of the Industrial Metal Workers Association (ADMIRA), Juan Carlos Lascurain, among others.
