Del Potro defeats Serra in successful US Open debut
Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina serves against Florent Serra of France during their men''s singles first round match in 2012 US Open
Juan Martin Del Potro successfully debuted in the US Open, as he defeated French Florent Serra 6-4, 7-6 (4) and 6-4 on Wednesday.
It took 2 hours and 34 minutes for the world’s top eight player to beat Serra, who replaced David Nalbandian, who dropped out of the tournament on Tuesday as suffered an injury in his rib area.
Del Potro won the US Open in 2009.
