President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced today a new government scheme in order to support the audiovisual industry, which includes raising the subsidies put toward national film production.

A new decree has been signed by the government awarding grants to the filmmaking industry.

In addition to higher subsidies put into the film industry, Fernández de Kirchner announced that in Puerto Madero a film industry production hub was to be created.

As part of a government incentive for aspiring filmmakers, a special committee set up with industry professionals and members of the Buenos Aires City government in order to judge which filmmakers/producers’ work will be awarded a grant.

The announcements were made today during a live televised speech where more than 1000 representatives from across national media were present, including journalists from television channels, radio stations, film directors, cultural representatives, actors and other artists.

In addition, ministers and government officials, senators and lawmakers were also attending.
