Rain returns, almost 700 evacuated on further flood warnings
Almost 700 people were evacuated in nine Buenos Aires province districts due to the return of heavy rain storms, a week after major floods hit the suburban areas, the Provincial Emergency Council said.
Head of the Emergency Council, Luciano Timerman said that: “if the rain continues, I am going to move through the different province districts to evaluate how to deal with the situation.”
The district that is most affected is still the area of La Matanza, with 200 people evacuated from their homes, taking refuge in School’s 65 and 79. In Pilar some 65 people have been evacuated, particularly in Fátima and Manzanares.
Evacuations were also made in Azul, Laprisa, Lobería, Mar del Plata, Necochea, San Cayetano and Tandil.
Necochea is one of the most affected districts, with 132 evacuees, and the Quequen river was expected to rise sharply overnight.
