Sweden not to extradite Assange should he face death penalty

A group of people hold allusive signs during a demonstration in support of the founder of WikiLeaks, Australian Julian Assange, outside the British embassy in Quito.
In an interview to the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper, Deputy Director of the Service for Criminal Cases and International Cooperation of Sweden’s Justice Ministry Cecilia Riddselius told Swedish authorities would not extradite WikiLeaks website founder Julian Assange, to the United States in case he could face capital punishment.

According to her, the United States so far has made no official requests for the WikiLeaks founder’s extradition either to Stockholm or to London.

If Assange is extradited to Sweden, he may be further handed over to the United States, where he could face death penalty for the publication of secret cables of the US State Department.

Yesterday, hundreds of Ecuadoreans marched in support of the government's decision to grant asylum to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Ecuador is outraged at Britain for threatening to enter its embassy in London has taken refuge.
