Dense fog causes delays, complications at airports, ports and on roads
Mist and dense banks of fog reduced the visibility in Buenos Aires City today causing delays at the Jorge B. Newbery Metropolitan Airport (Aeroparque) and Ezeiza international airport, affecting several morning flights, as well as closing and slowing down operations at ports.
On today’s early hours visibility in the City was reduced to 700 meters, the National Weather Forecasting Service (SMN) informed. The situation was even more complicated at some parts of the Greater Buenos Aires area.
In Ezeiza, La Plata and El Palomar, the visibility was reduced to 100 meters only, the forecast service reported.
At Aeroparque and Ezeiza from early this morning, arrivals and departures were delayed as some other flights had been cancelled due to the weather conditions.
Yesterday, a dense fogbank covering a large part of Buenos Aires forced the Aeroparque airport authorities to suspend all operations and reroute flights to the Ezeiza airport.
The Naval Command (PNA) informed La Plata port remains closed since yesterday due to poor weather conditions. Likewise, operations in the Zárate port were temporally halted but have since resumed, a spokesman for the Naval Command informed today. Meanwhile, the Buenos Aires port is operating “as usual”, the PNA said.
Several delays and complications were also reported on the city’s routes and accesses. The National Road Security Administration (ANSV) and the National Highway Administration recommended drivers to “reduce their speed, leave a larger stopping distance, and where needed, use fog lights.”
