Quilmes AC hammer Boca Juniors 3-0 in fantastic return
Martín Cauteruccio, twice, and Pablo Garnier scored in Quilmes’ 3-0 victory over Boca in their return to the First Division. Racing drew 1-1 with Atlético Rafaela in a match which José Sand missed two penalties.
Quilmes made a fantastic return to the Argentine First Division yesterday when they defeated Boca Juniors 3-0 at the Centenario Dr. José Luis Meiszner stadium in the first round of the Initial Tournament.
With Uruguayan striker Martín Cauteruccio in the attack and midfielder Miguel Caneo as the playmaker, Omar De Felippe’s team dominated the match and turned their superiority into goals.
Boca, now playing without star Juan Román Riquelme, were with ten players since the 18th minute as Uruguayan striker Santiago Silva was sent off.
Cauteruccio took advantage of a mistake from defender Matías Caruzzo in the 11th to put the host ahead. Pablo Garnier doubled the difference in the 60th and Cauteruccio sealed the 3-0 victory in the 85th.
Earlier, Racing’s striker José Sand missed two penalties in their 1-1 draw against Atlético Rafaela at the Juan Domingo Perón stadium in Avellaneda.
Forward César Carignano put the visitors ahead in the tenth, but defender Fernando Ortiz, one of Racing’s new signings, equalized the game two minutes later.
In the 45th and 76th the hosts had two clear chances to be ahead with a penalties, but goalkeeper Guillermo Sara saved both of them.
Sand, Ortiz, Claudio Corvalán, Mauro Camoranesi and Diego Vi-llar made their debut in Racing.
Also yesterday, Lanus’ Guillermo Barros Schelotto lost in his first game as a coach when their side were defeated by Colón at the Brigadier General Estanislao López stadium in the city of Santa Fe. Midfielder Iván Moreno y Fabianesi netted the winning goal in the 36th.
Newell’s Old Boys and Independiente played last night at press time.
On Friday, Vélez Sársfield started with the right foot in the competition after a convincing 3-0 victory over Argentinos Juniors. Defender Sebastián Domínguez scored twice, both with headers, and forward Lucas Pratto added another one in Vélez’s victory.
