City chaos as Subway workers extend strike

As the deadline for potential salary negotiations with Metrovías expired, unionists working in the six subway lines and the Premetro tram decided on Sunday evening to extend the strike for 24 hours, until today's midnight.

Thus, City commuters are experiencing a living hell as lines to catch buses and taxis dominate the urban scene.

Subway workers are asking for a 28 percent salary increase and an increase in infrastructure investment and service controls.

However, as neither the company nor the City Government offered a suitable response to the unionists, they decided to extend the strike.

The head of the Subway and Premetro Workers’ Union (AGTSyP), Néstor Pianelli, said in a statement to the press that “they will continue with their measures.”

After a meeting held on Sunday night, they all decided to extend the strike one more day.

The strike began on Friday evening and extended all through the weekend.
