Sailing: Bittersweet day for Argentina
Julio Alsogaray won the seventh men's Laser Radial race, but was disqualified in the eighth race. Nevertheless, he still has chances of winning a medal because he remains tenth in the overall ratings.
Alsogaray, 32, won the race by 56 minutes and 20 seconds, followed by Jean Baptiste Bernaz (three seconds later). Afterwards, in the eighth race held at Weymouth, he was shown the black flag because he was standing forward in the kick-off. Despite the fact that he was disqualified in the last race, he still has chances to win a medal.
Meanwhile, Cecilia Carranza Saroli completed with a 12 and 35 place the seventh and eighth race of the women's Laser Radial. The yachtwoman from Rosario was left in the 19 place at the overall ranking, 53 points from the qualifying places. The Belgian Evi Van Acker, winner of the eighth race, heads the general with 23 points.
Carranza, gold medal in Guadalajara 2011 Panamerican Games, had an irregular performance and entered 3' 33'' after the winner at the last race.
Meanwhile, Juan de la Fuente and Lucas Calabrese ended up at the tenth place in the overall ranking at the men's sailing 470 opening series race.
The Argentines accumulate 41 points, after they achieved the third place at the third race, and the ninth at the fourth one.
With this result, they reach the "medal race," the race for the medals, reserved for the first ten, that will be held next Thursday.
Regarding the women's sailing 470, María Fernanda Sesto and Consuelo Mosegur ended at the 19 place in the overall ranking with 36 points.
