Del Potro beats Simon, advances to quarter-finals

Juan Martín Del Potro, top-seeded in Argentina's tennis, achieved the quarter-finals of the London 2012 Olympic Games after defeating French Gilles Simon by 6-1, 4-6,6-3. The player from Tandil also won in the debut of the mixed doubles with Gisela Dulko.

The Argentine player defeated Simon in an hour and 51 minutes, and will now face Japanese Kei Nishikori, who defeated Spain's David Ferrer by 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.

Likewise, Serbia's Novak Djokovic beat Australia's Lleyton Hewitt 4-6 7-5 6-1; while Spain's Nicolas Almagro beat Belgium's Steve Darcis 7-5 6-3.
