'The subway strike is arbitrary and excessive,' Vidal

Deputy mayor for the City of Buenos Aires, María Eugenia Vidal.

Deputy Mayor for Buenos Aires City María Eugenia Vidal sharply criticized the announced strike by the UTA subway and tram workers union yesterday, labelling it an ‘arbitrary and excessive’ move.

“We are looking at the strike through worried eyes,” Vidal said today in a morning radio interview where she urged workers to consider the welfare of public transport users.

“Together, we urge the union members to think first, and that they speak before carrying out the measure which should really be a last resort.

“Causing detriment to the commute of thousands of passengers is not an option,” Vidal insisted.

Furthermore, Vidal assured that: “By instruction of the head of the City Mayor, I have sent a written warning to (Néstor) Segovia due to the fact that he was the first person to announce the strike.”
