Lorenzino: 'Blue dollar doesn't have a direct impact on economy’

Lorenzino explained the blue dollar is illegal and that it should be treated as an ordinary criminal offense.

During an interview to a local radio today, Economy Minister Hernán Lorenzino assured that the dollar traded at the black market does not have a direct impact on the country’s economy.

According to the Minister, trading at the illegal market and not at the official rates represents a “marginal activity” which has no effect on the national economy.

“This is an absolute marginal issue which has no impact whatsoever on macroeconomic variables,” the official remarked.

Lorenzino explained the so called "blue dollar" is illegal and that it should be treated as an ordinary criminal offense.

“It is definitely an illicit activity and nothing more than that: an issue that should be seen as nothing but a felony.”

The official also celebrated the conclusion of Corralito debts payment expected to be met by August 3.

“It is Corralito’s last installment,” he said.

“We see it as a very important step. To pay off the Corralito debt represents closing the door of a very dark chapter of the country’s history”, Lorenzino concluded.
