Govt's letter suggesting Gils Carbó for Prosecutor General reaches Senate
The National Government’s request to designate Alejandra Gils Carbó as the new Procurator General reached the Upper House, and senators are expected to formally clear it for debate and move forward with her appointment process on Wednesday.
The Senate’s schedule states that the process of her eventual designation will continue on August 7, when the Senate’s Agreements Committee will hold a public hearing in which Gils Carbó will have to be present.
The final step of the process will take place on August 15th, when senators will vote for her appointment as the new Procurator General, an office currently vacant since Esteban Righi resigned amidst accusations of influence peddling by Vice-President Amado Boudou.
Gils Carbó’s appointment was suggested by the Fernández de Kirchner administration after former candidate to the office Daniel Reposo withdrew his bid to replace Righi last month.
