Waste collection service resumes

The waste collection workers lifted the blockade at the CEAMSE landfill, leading to the normalization of the service that had been cancelled yesterday.

The workers' representatives agreed on a meeting to be held tomorrow with the authorities of CEAMSE, Buenos Aires government leaders and the mayor of San Martín city.

"At least they are going to listen to our requests, that's what we wanted. We are working without insurance, bathrooms, special clothing, because we are not formally recognized as CEAMSE workers," said Lidia Quinteros, workers' represenative.

She detailed that "we will evaluate the situation tomorrow after the meeting and we'll decide if we continue with the strike or not."

Buenos Aires City government had urged its residents on Sunday not to take the rubbish out "to avoid the piling up of bags on the streets.”
