Chicago back in National B
Nueva Chicago will play in the National B Division next season as they drew 1-1 with Chacarita Juniors, who were dropped to the First Division B, yesterday in the return leg of their promotion-relegation playoff.
The match at Chacarita’s stadium had an incredible final because Chicago’s goalkeeper Daniel Monllor saved a penalty taken by Damián Toledo in the fourth and last minute of extra time.
Leandro Carboni scored in the 84th for the visitors, who had won 1-0 in the first leg, and seemed to seal the series, but Gabriel Tellas equalized the game in the 88th. Chacarita, who will play again in the Argentine third division after 18 years, had a prefect chance to stay in the National B with a penalty, but Monllor ruined their celebration by saving it.
“We deserved this promotion. We have been better than them in both matches,” said Monllor after the match.
Today, San Lorenzo host Instituto of Córdoba at 2.10pm to play the second leg of their promotion-relegation playoff. Ricardo Caruso Lombardi’s team won 2-0 in the first match and are the clear favourites to stay in the First Division. In the other playoff, San Martín of San Juan face Rosario Central today at 4.20pm. They drew 0-0 in Santa Fe on Wednesday.
