Pueyrredón bridge blocked off on 10th anniversary of Kosteki and Santillán murders
Pueyrredón bridge was blocked off this morning by social movements, to mark the tenth anniversary since activists Maximiliano Kosteki and Darío Santillán were killed by the Buenos Aires province police.
The bridge, which links the neighbourhood of Barracas with the district of Avellaneda, was being blocked off since midnight.
Cabinet Chief Juan Manuel Abal Medina took part of the ceremony and said “ten years after the murders of Maximiliano Kostecki and Dario Santillán, many things have changed and that we have the commitment to keep on working. For them, for the memory (late president) Néstor Kirchner and for the 30,00 thousand ‘missing people’ our plight goes on” he assured.
“We must safeguard our jobs, our salaries, our achievements and our country,” he added.
Highway authorities advised drivers to take alternative routes when coming into the Capital, suggesting the use of Victorino de la Plaza, Nicolás Avellaneda and Uriburu bridges and access via the Buenos Aires-La Plata motorway.
Kosteki and Santillán were killed by Buenos Aires province police during a social protest in 2002, while Eduardo Duhalde was in power.
