Crossfire between CFK, UK’s David Cameron at G20 summit

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and British Prime Minister David Cameron had a small uncomfortable rendezvous during the second day of the G20 Summit in the Mexican City of Los Cabos.

According to Foreign Minister Héctor Timérman, the premier suddenly approached the Argentine head of state and she used the opportunity to reiterate the Argentine wish to resume negotiations over the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands, currently a British protectorate.

Cameron allegedly refused to discuss the sovereignty of the disputed territories and urged Fernández de Kirchner to accept the outcome of the referendum islanders are expected to hold next year.

The President then responded Cameron’s remarks by urging him to comply with the United Nations resolutions which call for negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume. 

According to the BBC news, Cameron refused to accept a letter from Fernández de Kirchner outlining UN’s Resolution 40 and left the place.

Downing Street confirmed the two leaders met "in the margins" of the first working session of the G20 Summit today.
