'The CGT should always maintain its independence, no matter the gov't'
Secretary general of the metal workers'' union Antonio Caló.
In statements today, the general secretary of the metal workers’ union (UOM) Antonio Caló underlined the importance of the CGT umbrella union maintaining independence from the Government.
"The CGT should always maintain its independence, no matter the government in power," the UOM union leader said.
“Some make it by blocking off roads and others through talks,” Caló said, referring specifically to measures taken in order to press demands –normally to do with wages- made by union workers. “The important thing is to look at the end result,” he furthered.
Also, Caló went on to talk about the upcoming CGT election and made it clear that he “wouldn’t bend over backwards” to be head of the Labour Confederation.
