Fiat suspends 1600 workers
Carmaker Fiat suspended 1600 workers of its factory in Córdoba province due to the lack of autparts, SMATA auto industry workers union announced.
The suspension will affect the majority of the factory’s workers and will last for two days on Monday and Tuesday next week. Wednesday is a national holiday and workers are expected to return to work on Thursday.
“Fiat told us they are lacking certain autoparts due to import restrictions,” SMATA spokesman Leonardo Almada said.
During the 48 hour suspension, workers will be paid 75 percent of their salaries, according to an agreement reached between the union and the company.
