'Congress Index:' Inflation hits 1.7% in May

Opposition lawmakers unveiled the inflation index based on the analysis of nine private agencies, which in May reached 1.71 percent. The unofficial consumer price index has accumulated a 23.85 percent increase during the first five months of the year, twice the volume registered by the Indec national statistics bureau.

The evaluation was presented by national lawmakers Patricia Bullrich (Unión por Todos), Eduardo Amadeo (Frente Peronista), Paula Bertol (PRO), Ricardo Gil Lavedra and Juan Pedro Tunessi (UCR) and Ramona Pucheta (MIJD).

The official index will be released by the Indec on Wednesday and it is expected to reach between 0.6 to 0.9 percent.
