Malvinas: Gov't slams UK for 'arrogance, haughtiness'

Puricelli stated today the United Kingdom maintains its “arrogance and haughtiness” over the Malvinas sovereignty issue.
Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli stated today the United Kingdom maintains its “arrogance and haughtiness” over the Malvinas sovereignty issue as the 30th anniversary of the end of the war approaches.

To the official, “the UK will press on with its arrogance and haughtiness as its only argument to continue the occupation of the Malvinas Islands.”

Puricelli made the remarks during a ceremony to mark the day of Argentina’s affirmation of sovereignty over the South Atlantic archipelago celebrated yesterday.

The official also rejoiced President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s participation in next Thursday's United Nations conference on decolonisation in New York City.

Kirchner is scheduled to attend the meeting of the UN's Committee of 24 (Special Committee on Decolonisation) on June 14, which is considered by the British the islands’ Liberation Day and the 30th anniversary of the end of the 74-day war between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982.
