Opposition celebrates Reposo's stepping down
A sense of relief was felt among opposition lawmakers Friday morning, as they celebrated the decision made by Daniel Reposo on Thursday, Kirchnernite candidate for the post of prosecutor-general, to step down and supported the decision for government nominee Alejandra Gils Garbo being put forward for the role.
Lawmakers Graciela Ocaña and Daniel Amoroso (Confianza Pública), sharply criticised Reposo, saying that he was “just a link in the chain of mistakes made by the President.” The two had previously voiced their negativity toward him being put forward for the role of prosecutor general.
“Finally he has pulled out as a candidate,” they furthered.
The deputies highlighted the fact that although another candidate has been put forward, “the issue that started this mess is still very much alive and is under investigation by the Judiciary.”
Furthermore, national lawmaker for the Radical party bloc (UCR) Manuel Garrido expressed his support for the nomination of Gils Carbó in Reposo’s pace, and said, “I’ve worked with Gils Carbó in different instances and had very good experiences. She’s a person who knows about law and is dedicated to her position.”
Garrido continued in defence of the current prosecutor for the Commercial Appeals Court, saying that at times there were comments made about her that were “uncalled for” furthering that “when anyone is in a position of law, they will always affect somebody” in a negative way.
