Fire kills two, injures at least 22 in old people's home

Two senior citizens were killed on Friday after a fire broke out in an old people’s home in the Buenos Aires City neighbourhood of Floresta. Another twenty-two people were injured as a result of the fire, and were taken to local hospitals to be treated.

The fatalities saw the death of two elderly ladies, aged over 80 years old, who were left trapped inside the care home, fire fighters and medical sources said.

The head of the SAME ambulance service, Alberto Crescenti, told the press that more than twenty ambulances were sent to the scene.

The injured were taken to Durand, Santojanni, Álvarez, Penna and Piñero hospitals, ambulance staff reported.

According to early reports the fire broke out because of a short circuit inside one of the rooms in the building.
