Final farewell given for Estela Raval at BA City Legislature
A wake was held for singer Estela Raval today at the City Legislature in Buenos Aires, where family members, friends and fans gathered to say goodbye to the star who died yesterday at the age of 77, after a long battle with cancer.
The final farewells were being given inside the President Peron Salon, on the ground floor of the City Legislature.
This afternoon, the singer’s remains were taken to a private cemetery in the Greater Buenos Aires area of Pilar.
Born on May 19, 1935 as Palma Nicolina Ravallo, Estela Raval made her singing debut at the beginning of the 1950s in the band Las Alondras, but her real rise to fame came later in her career when she became the lead singer for the group Los Cinco Latinos, which debuted at the Tabarís theatre in May, 1957.
Raval was one of the most well-known romantic singers in Latin America and toured with Los Cinco Latinos until 2011.
Raval died from a respiratory infection and from complications of breast cancer, which she battled for 10 years. She had been hospitalized at the Bazterrica Clinic in the City neighbourhood of Palermo.
