Beer to be sold at Brazil World Cup
Beer must be sold at all venues hosting matches in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, as the neighbouring country’s President Dilma Rousseff enshrined it in a law after the constant pressure coming from the football's world governing body FIFA.
The law approval came in a time when alcoholic drinks are banned at Brazilian stadiums and while the country's health minister had repeatedly urged Congress to maintain the ban in the new law.
FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke had said the right to sell beer must be enshrined in a World Cup law the Brazilian Congress was considering.
Brewer Budweiser is a big FIFA sponsor, and may have surely received in good mood the news.
The new law was finally passed as the voting on the legislation had been held up in Congress by the dispute over alcohol sales.
