Polar weather hits BA, below zero temperatures in several provinces

Low temperatures might even bring some snow to the capital’s suburban areas, a rare event.

A polar wave of low temperatures hit Buenos Aires today as the thermometers considerably descended in a week that is expected to be one of the coldest of the year so far, according to previsions announced by the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

Several provinces registered below zero temperatures across the country. The coldest one was registered at La Quiaca, Jujuy province where thermometers hit - 5.5 below zero, - 10.9 chill factor. Polar temperatures where also registered in San Luís, Mendoza, Buenos Aires Province , La Pampa, Santa Cruz, San Juan, Salta, Cordoba and several other Buenos Aires province locations.

At the Argentine station in Antarctica thermometers hit -26 Celsius this morning.

According to forecast services, low temperatures might even bring some snow to the capital’s suburban areas, a rare event. Temperatures at Buenos Aires City are expected to stay significantly low up to Thursday.
