Government denies versions of economy de-dollarization
Cabinet Chief Abal Medina came on stage today to deny media versions that indicated the government is planning a de-dollarization of the economy.
Amid increased government controls on dollar purchases, Medina told reporters versions of de-dollarization were "ridiculous." "I thought it was a joke," the Chief of Staff added.
Later today, Deputy Economic Minister Axel Kicillof began a press conference which was supposed to deal with YPF situation talking about media reports which indicate the government was preparing a de-dollarization plan. He denied those versions saying the economy was already "pesified" as "the peso is our official currency."
Kicillof also addressed rumors of alleged drastic measures to be taken by the government in the near future. “They say we are going to carry out a second Corralito, their aim is to create panic in the population,” Kiciloff pointed out. “This is not 2001. Those rumors have no reality grip,” he added.
