Opposition leads rallies calling for 'independent' justice system

The Broad Progressive Front (FAP), led by Socialist Hermes Binner, demonstrated in front of the historic Cabildo building, while several PRO and Federal Peronism lawmakers joined in a symbolic embrace in front of the Tribunales Courthouse in order to demand “an independent justice system.”

Both groups demonstrated separately because the FAP said the PRO was only protesting in order to “defend Mayor Mauricio Macri.”

“We make a call for larger transparency, like we Argentines did back in 1810 for the patriots who were involved in the May revolution,” Binner said.

At the same time, PRO, Federal Peronism and Union por Todos lawmakers led a protest in front of the Tribunales Courthouse and demanded “an independent justice system” amidst criticism towards the Kirchnerite government.

Holding flags, placards and balloons, the lawmakers met under the drizzle. According to the organizers, close to 5,000 people attended the rally.
