AFIP arrests another illegal money exchange dealer

Authorities working with the AFIP tax agency arrested another illegal money exchange dealer who was “publicly offering to sell dollars” on the intersection of Florida and Bartolomé Mitre streets.

According to the Money Exchange Criminal Regime, the illegal sale of foreign currency is punishable with prison.

The investigation began on Saturday morning and extended until late in the afternoon in the downtown area, where the presence of dealers remains high despite it being a weekend.

Authorities discovered one of the dealers, locally referred to as “arbolito,” at the exact moment when he was offering to buy and sell dollars to people who walked by him.

Authorities immediately moved in and questioned the dealer, who was found to be a Peruvian citizen who couldn’t’ prove his legal resident status.

He admitted he was offering to buy and sell dollars.

After being searched, Federal Police officials found a log in which he wrote down all transactions made and receipts from previous money wires abroad.

The suspect was later taken to Police Station N°1, where he would be questioned again by the authorities.
