AFIP arrests illegal money exchange dealer in the City

The AFIP tax agency carried out a surprise operation in Downtown Buenos Aires that ended in the arrest of an illegal money exchange dealer at the intersection of Lavalle and Florida, who was “outspokenly” selling dollars, Euros and reals.

He was arrested in accordance to the Money Exchange Penal Code, which clarifies that “black marker money exchange dealers could get up to 8 years in prison.”

The AFIP raid was carried out after a previous work of intelligence in which several undercover agents kept walking up and down Florida St. in order to identify the dealers and spot their “hot zones” in the city map.

The intersection of Lavalle and Florida streets was identified as one of the “hottest” areas due to the high concentration of tourists and pedestrians.

After being spotted, dealers follow them and outspokenly offer to buy their money.
