Hollande's plane hit by lightning, flight forced to return to Paris

France´s president Francois Hollande and his companion Valerie Trierweiler leave the Elysee presidential Palace in Paris, after he being officially invested as France´s president on May 15, 2012, during the formal investiture ceremony.

The presidential airplane carrying newly sworn-in French President Francois Hollande had to make an emergency return to Paris this afternoon, after passing through an electrical storm while on route to Berlin. The pilot was forced to land the plane in the French capital, however the leader was not injured and took off for Germany on a separate flight, a presidential source said.

The leader was on his way to Berlin, in order to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
