Kelpers create their own version of the disputed Olympics spot
An ironic remake of the disputed government-bought television advert featuring male hockey team captain Fernando Zylberberg training on the Malvinas islands for the Olympic Games, was sent around websites and social networks today.
The video puts together a montage of shots from the original spot, where Zylberberg can be seen training in some well-known areas of the Malvinas islands, with additions such as a typical red double-decker bus, explained with the caption “Falklands Islands – 6pm, last bus of the day.”
The advert was turned into a spoof, in which Zylerberg’s training turns into a desperate effort to catch the last bus of the day.
The athlete ends up not catching the bus, for having arrived one minute late, which probes the final slogan “To catch a bus on Falklands soil, we advise not using an Argentine timetable,” in response to the original ad’s final line “to compete on British soil, we train on Argentine soil.”
The final caption states, “In homage to those who gave their time and to those that will never get it back.” The original ending paid homage to those who fell during the Malvinas War.
