Senator cleared impopular bill for debate
Latorre under police security after death threats
Senator Roxana Latorre reported she had received deaths threats and is under permanent police surveillance, after she angered farmers when she cleared the bill granting delegated powers at the Upper House for debate.
The law was approved by 36 votes in favour and 30 against, allowing the government to set export duties. She lives in downtown Rosario.
According to farmer Alfredo De Angeli, the head of the Entre Ríos faction of the Small Farmers Association, Senator Latorre had "betrayed" farmers and said she should not take office in December. Latorre was re-elected in the June mid-term elections.
