Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández came out to say that the measurement of poverty untilized by the Argentine Church "does not work."

Thus, Aníbal Fernández replies to the church's studies that estimated that poverty in Argentina reaches out to at least 40 percent of the population.

Likewise, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, the highest authority of the Catholic Church in Argentina, criticized the lack of action against poverty in Argentina and warned of a "dramatic situation".

Aníbal Fernández also mentioned that the method used by the Church is what is internationally known as "subjective analysis of poverty," and added, "it may work for the Church, but a subjective analysis of reality does not work for me."

The minister also underplayed the impact of the international crisis in the local economy, "The economical situation we have in Argentina is of much less impact on people compared to what the rest of the world is going through."
