Union reports 150 layoffs in Kraft Foods-Terrabusi
The Food Industry Workers' Union (STIA) reported today that firm Kraft Foods- Terrabusi has laid off 150 workers from the company's plant located in the General Pacheco district of Buenos Aires province.
The head of the STIA, Rodolfo Daer, said the union declared a strike at 1pm, demanding that the company rehire workers. Representatives of the company were not available to confirm the information.
Daer added that "members of the firm's Internal Committee and also three members of the Board of Directors were dismissed."
As a result of the international economic crisis many companies in Argentina decided to dismiss workers. The Argentine GPD is not expected to grow at all this year according to estimates of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
