Meeting will focus on farm export tax duties
'Moreno's use of 'superpowers' is illegal', Pinedo
Lower House's Constitutional Affairs Commission will start a round of meetings to discuss the superpowers that the executive power holds. The opposition pretends to get all faculties delegated back immediately while the Kirchnerite seeks to obtain an extension to keep the privilege of ‘superpowers' for one more year.
A crucial debate will be established mostly considering that the so mentioned ‘superpowers' are the ones that have granted the government with the authority to take ahead the farm export tax hike of last year, as well the setting-up of import tax duties.
Deputy Federico Pinedo, head of the PRO caucus showed concerned about the farm export tax duties which he considers "should be changed", and added, "We are also worried about Domestic Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno's behaviour and use of superpowers which is illegal.
Pinedo also told reporters that the oppositioon will reject any extension the government might want to obtain in the use of the 'superpowers.
The Kirchnerite considers the superpowers a cornerstone of its political project since they allow collecting 34.2 million pesos a year through farm export and hydrocarbons tax duties, a huge flow of cash of which the government does not want to lose a hold of.
Opposition parties not only want to recover all faculties Congress has delegated to the government (executive power), but also to lower the soy farm export tax duties, as well to cancel all export taxes on corn and wheat.
Civic Coalition Deputy Adrián Pérez told reporters that a strong Parliament must count with all its faculties, and added that "by no means the opposition's will of recovering all superpowers is a maneuver to put governability under risk."
