After Supreme Court declarations
Julio Alak: Modifying Council of Magistrates is 'not a solution'
Justice and Security Minister Julio Alak said that "it is not a solution" to modify the law which defines the Council of Magistrates, even though it is necessary to offer more transparency within the organization and more clarity he told Radio Identidad.
"The actual law, which was voted for by Congress, is less than two years old: I do not think that it is a solution to modify it," he said in radio declarations.
In that sense, he added that "the construction of a solid democracy and of a lawful state requires stability in the judicial norms. We can not be changing these normas, these fundamental and institutional norms, such as the Council of Magistrates."
Alak also said that he thought it "important" to find a way to offer more clarity "as is asked for by some sectors of the judicial system."
Also, he added that "we have to guarantee a transparent selection process and a better system for administrating funds, which are the main tasks of the Council."
Finally, Alak insisted that public sessions be televised, because it is "a way for citizens to look into what values are being held on to."
Meanwhile, Diana Conti, kirchnerite lawmaker, said that the Council has certain "difficulties" and added that "they have to make some modifications." Besides, she said that the Council debate at Congress is not "a priority," but it will be discussed according to the congressional agenda established by the opposition.
"The Congress has a congressional agenda. The Council of Magistrates is an issue but it's not a priority. We are going to continue with the established agenda. The Council has difficulties in the judge selection process, i think it's not clear enough," said the lawmaker.
