'INDEC reforms are purely cosmetic'
'Argentine economy is managed by one man only, Néstor Kirchner', deputy
Civic Coalition Deputy Adrián Pérez talked exclusively with the BuenosAiresherald.com and raised his voice after government's decision for which the INDEC statistics bureau will now directly depend on the Economy Ministry and not on the Domestic Trade secretary, Guillermo Moreno.
"This is purely a cosmetic reform or change and does not make any difference to the policy the ruling party had led so far."
Pérez stressed that "what must be discussed here is a deep reform and not forget that the INDEC is an autonomous body, hence it should no longer be dependent of the government", and added, "that's the main point to be discussed: INDEC's autonomy plus the way its officials are selected, which should be done by a meticulous selection process involving interviews and competitive examinations and not instead of a unilateral decision made by the President."
Asked about Chief Cabinet Aníbal Fernández's comments supporting Economy Minister Amado Boudou as "the one who calls the INDEC shots now" instead of controversial Domestic Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno, Pérez was categorical:
"Those comments are not believable", and remarked, "How can you believe that when Bodou insists to keep Guillermo Moreno at his post showing that at the very end nothing has really changed."
Deputy Pérez also questioned Amado Boudou's functions as head of the Economy Ministry, "The Argentine economy is managed by one man only, and that's former president Néstor Kirchner, and his inside man in charge of modify national statistics and distort economy's reality is Guillermo Moreno."
