The court stated that the "Belgrano shooter" was unfit to stand trial.

Martín Ríos, known as the "Belgrano Shooter", is unfit to stand trial and will be sent to Borda psychiatric hospital, the Criminal court stated.

The judges considered that Ríos didn't understand his actions were criminal and that he couldn't control himself during the four attacks he was accused of having perpetrated, including the Cabildo Avenue shooting, when Alfredo Marcenac was shot dead, on July 6 2006.

"It's a disgrace. Doctors control the Justice in this country", said an angry Adrían Marcenac, the victim's father, moments after the court issued the statement. "The medical experts' argumentation was ridiculous; Ríos is clearly fit to stand trial," he told reporters.

Ríos was charged with "aggravated murder", for the killing of Marcenac, and the injuries of 11 others, as well as the illegal possession of high-calibre firearms.

On July 6 2006, Ríos started shooting at blank point as he was walking down Cabildo Avenue (Belgrano neighbourhood, City of Buenos Aires) during rush hour.

Moments later, he shot Marcenac to death and wounded two of the latter's friends. Ríos was also accused of wounding the passengers of a train and a bus in random shootings the previous days. He was arrested eight days later, at his mother's home in Munro (Northern Greater Buenos Aires).
