CFK speaks to the press after midterm elections
'No further changes in the Cabinet are necessary'
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner gave a press conference at Government House and played down the defeat suffered by government candidates in the midterm elections.
Press conference highlights:
"We can't fail to recognize Solanas' excellent election campaign."
"Always during the second term the ruling party suffers an electoral defeat."
"I congratulate all those who triumphed in the different districts of the country."
Speaking on the situation in Honduras: "I spoke with the different president's of the region. We want the media to reflect the data that we're sharing because preoccupying things are occurring in the entire region."
"Congress' composition has to do with the governability of the country."
"Our loss is going to demand agreements in order to attain governability. We must negotiate just like in any parliament."
"My government is the one that has debated the most conflictive issues."
"We can't deny that there are different ideas in the Congress."
"When we vote, we are all equal."
"It is impossible to govern six years without the people becoming tired."
"Throughout the campaign, we had to put up with very harsh accusations even though we were winning by a big difference."
"In Santa Cruz our defeat had to do with our absence from the territory. In Calafate, we won with 60% of the votes."
"An IMF report highlights the surveys made by the Indec statistics bureau. But here in our country, if the Indec results are positive, then they question them."
"I was one of the authors that wanted to include co-participation in the Constitution. Congress should deal with co-participation."
"I trust that everyone will work to achieve governability."
"The international crisis continues and the markets remain altered. The Argentine currency was the less devalued in the region. The exchange rate has never been so competitive."
"Governability means being able to predict what will happen."
"Not only does the ruling party make mistakes, but the opposition does as well. I feel like they always question us, but they listen to the opposition."
"An agreement does not mean that one must renounce to what one thinks."
"To negotiate doesn't mean to renounce to one's principles. In issues such as Aerolíneas we reached consensus. The same happened with the AFJP and with Resolution 125."
"I don't think there will be any more changes in the Cabinet, aside from Ocaña. No further changes are necessary."
