Estudiantes wins 1-0 against Defensor Sporting
Estudiantes de la Plata won 1-0 against Defensor Sporting from Uruguay tonight during a leg of the Libertadores Cup.
The first leg of the Cup was played on May 28 in Montevideo, Uruguay when the Argentine team obtained a crucial 1-0 victory (Desábato) that allow them to access semifinals by just drawing tonight.
Designated referee was Colombian Oscar Ruiz, who was assisted by fellow countrymen linemen Abraham González and Humberto Clavijo.
Both teams arrived to the encounter after having won last weekend in their local tournaments. Estudiantes defeated Godoy Cruz 1-0, while Defensor Sporting beat Juventud de Las Piedras 2-1 and won the Uruguayan Clausura tournament.
Estudiantes did not count on right defender Marcos Angeleri, sent off in the first leg match. In addition, he went under surgery after got injured on a later local league's game and will see no action for the next six to eight months. Covering Angeleri's leave was Germán Ré.
During the week many Estudiantes' players complained about the poor conditions of the football pitch by having rented it to Argentine rock band La Renga which performed several nights on it and had thousands of fans on the grass.
