Deputy García Hamilton dies
National Deputy for Tucumán and historian José Ignacio García Hamilton died yesterday at the age of 65 after being hospitalized for days at the Alexander Fleming clinic due to a serious illness. The family of the historian did not provide further details on the causes of García Hamilton's death.
García Hamilton's wake is currently taking place until 6 pm at the national Congress.
García Hamilton who was also candidate for vice-governor of Tucumán in 1991 was born in 1943 and had six sons. In 2007 he was elected for the Radical Party (UCR) as National Deputy for the 2007-2011 period.
With a prestigious and rich career as a journalist and writer (more than ten history books), García Hamilton had just finished his latest book about the life of three times Argentina's President General Juan Domingo Perón
Hamilton also worked as professor at the University of Buenos Aires.
García Hamilton, who was also lawyer, was a recognized columnist and senior editor of newspaper La Gaceta de Tucumán, which is owned by his family. He also founded El Pueblo newspaper and collaborated with newspapers and magazines from Argentina, England, United States, and many Latin-American countries.
The Radical party sent a message of condolence through an official communiqué in which stated that ‘we are deeply sad for the loss of a great historian, intellectual and deputy. García Hamilton was a life-time defender of democracy and the institutions of the republic'.
