The Senate's General Legislation Committee will meet on Tuesday to sign the document on same sex marriage, which will be debated during the set of sessions scheduled for July 14.

After several public sessions and a round of debate in the Argentine provinces, the committee will debate for the final time over the same sex marriage issue, for which several bills have been presented in addition to the one already approved by the Lower House.

The initiative was set in motion by the government and intends to modify the Civil Code to allow persons of the same sex to be able to marry. It would also legalize adoption for those couples.

In addition, at least four other bills that deal with "civil unions" were presented to allow homosexual couples to establish a union similiar to that of matrimony but without the possibility of adoption.

This week's debate will be the last before the session on July 14 and, in addition, will close the round of consultations and public sessions that have been held since early June of this year.
