Ex-governor tells De Angeli to 'shut his mouth'
Solá says there will be changes within the campaign
Felipe Solá, who is running second in the opposition Unión-PRO slate in the congressional elections, said the party would change its campaigning methods to include more proposals instead of focusing merely on critics to other political forces.
Solá meanwhile trashed the head of the Small Farmers' Federation, Alfredo de Angeli, after the latter insulted Néstor Kirchner and told the farming leader to "shut his mouth."
Solá, who is second in the party's slate after businessman Francisco de Narváez, acknowledged there were tensions with his ally within the dissident Peronism, but said that now that the political party has consolidated, it would seek to adopt a more proactive approach ahead of the June 28 mid-term ballot.
"We had our differences in the past, but now that we're together we will not let any cracks challenge our unity," Solá told interviewers on a radio programme. Solá, a former governor of Buenos Aires province, is engaged in a political alliance with other sectors within the dissident Peronism, and the centre-right PRO, led by Mauricio Macri.
Solá's remarks seem to be the reaction to comments made by political analysts over the lack of initiatives in the campaign. The candidate said the party would focus on detailing the political platform in the upcoming political rallies.
Solá also seized the opportunity to tell De Angeli to "shut his mouth" after the farming leader called his rival for a seat in the Lower House, Néstor Kirchner a "jerk" (pelotudo).
"I don't really need to explain this boy why, but he should shut up until the elections are over," said Solá, who claimed this type of incidents are favouring the chances of the government's candidates. "The problem is that certain people speak first, but think later," he added.
In a different interview, De Angeli said he would not take back his remarks on the former president. "What has been done, is done," he said, and also criticized Krichner on the farming policies of his wife and successor Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, which have led to an increasingly violent dispute with farm leaders.
