People around the world are being asked to contribute to a virtual observatory, sources said today.

The observatory would gather information ranging from climate change to crop-damaging pesticides, scientists said.

Also, the head of the Encyclopedia of Life, James Edward, said that certain science-based organisations were already trying to link thousands of computer databases into a simplified virtual observatory.
