After gov't made appointment official
'Marcó del Pont must stop Moreno, otherwise she has too much to lose'
After the government made official the appointment of Mercedes Marcó del Pont as the flaming new Central Bank governor, thus confirming the sacking of Hernán Martín Pérez Redrado from the post, economy experts and politicians came up to stage to congratulate the newly-appointed official.
A decree published on the Official Gazette today confirms Marcó del Pont at the CB, and also names Juan Carlos Fabrega as new head of Banco Nación.
Economist Javier González Fraga showed a keen interest for Marcó del Pont appointment but also some concern as he told reporters that "She can definitely bring some rationality to the irrational economic policies implemented by former president Néstor Kirchner and Domestic Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno", and emphasized, "Marcó del Pont must stop Moreno, otherwise she's got too much to lose."
González Fraga felt "glad" with the newly appointed official as he considered it was the best possible option: "I'm glad with the government's choice; it would've been a negative move to name Miguel Pesce (CB lieutenant-governor)."
The economist also considered that "The government could have appointed a ‘cashier' as new CB governor, but Marcó del Pont is a true professional that won't let herself to be pressured by someone else. Both the President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Amado Boudou (Economy Minister) should listen to her and also tried to stop Moreno."
"If Moreno keeps his tough attitude trying to slash the heads of everyone who dares to put him some limits, the ending of the government will be worsen than expected."
Likewise, the head of the Proyecto Sur and lawmaker Fernando "Pino" Solanas remarked that "Marcó del Pont is a much better person than Redrado, who comes from the Establishment and also worked for former president Carlos Menem", and added, "but if she keeps insisting with the so-called Bicentennial Fund she will become nothing but the same."
On the other hand, pro-government economist Aldo Ferrer considered on the new appointment that "Marcó del Pont's first main goal will be to achieve a good management of the country's savings so they can be invested on internal development", and added, "This mean that some points in which Marcó del Pont should be focused are the interest rate, and those politics aimed to promote long term financing, matters in which the newly appointed CB head is highly experienced."
Peronist economist Eduardo Setti also gave his Word about the new CB chief, "I highly respect her professional credentials and have no doubt that she will do a great job at the CB", and continued, "I also understand that Marcó del Pont has been working for a long time on a project meant to modify the CB's organic chart or BCRA law, indicating that these are matters that have alerted her for a long time."
Buenos Aires province lieutenant-governor Alberto Balestrini praised del Pont's designation as he told reporters that "Marcó de Pont has shown a great technical understanding of the economics, reliability, and solid competence; all things that assure a good management of the most important monetary entity of the country."
The head of the Victory Front bloc in the Lower House, Agustín Rossi declared to be "proud of having Marcó del Pont as the new CB governor", and added, "I´m sure her administration at the CB will allow the government to strengthen the national politics that allowed the great growth achieved during the past years."
