Marcó del Pont is the new Central Bank governor.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner named economist Merces Marcó del Pont as the new head of the Central Bank and confirmed the removal of fomer chief Martín Redrado, who was dismissed by DNU emergency decree after he had rejected to use the reserves for the creation of the Bicentennial Fund.

Marcó del Pont, self-described as an activist who "promotes developer ideas", was born in 1959 in Buenos Aires city. She is married and has three children. Marcó del Pont went to a private school, Madame Renard, and to the Lenguas Vivas school in high school.

She expressed that her ideas find a "route": she is leader Rogelio Frigerio's niece. She graduated in 1982 in the Facultad de Economía of Buenos Aires University. She then was a member of the Fundación de Investigadores para el Desarrollo association, whose head was Octavio Frigerio, Rogelio's son and presided by Héctor Valle. She mastered in International Economy in Yale University.

On December 2005, she filled the position of Buenos Aires city National Deputy and led the Small and Medium-Size Companies (Pymes) Committee in the Lower House, during which time she introduced an amendment draft for the Central Bank's Law Procedure.

On January 2008, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner appointed her as the Banco Nación bank in order to replace Garbeial Ciganotto, who is currently holding a position in the Central Bank.
