In Catamarca’s Fiambalá city, next to Abaucán river
Helicopter falls down, two injured at Dakar Rally
A helicopter carrying four people, two of them journalists, fell down near northern city of Fiambalá, finishing point of 2010 Dakar Rally's third stage. Two people were injured according to Argentina's National Gendarmerie.
"The Robinson 44 helicopter fell next to Abaucán river due to problems having to do with losing its balance," Gerdarmerie sources explained. Bad weather was also playing a role in the accident. As officers pointed out, "the wind and the heat" make the situation a very difficult one to manage.
The helicopter's pilot and co-pilot were transferred to the nearest hospital, while both of the journalists, from TV show "Campeones", were treated in the Dakar camping zone of Fiambalá, in Catamarca.
"They are all out of danger. The pilots were taken to a hospital and journalists are in the bivouac," a spokesman told National Gendarmerie.
