Book Review
A little bit of hope
Review by Stephen Page
For the Herald
María Cristina Azcona’s Window to Heaven is a book about terrorism, despair, and violence. Where does one find murder, sadness, and human-rights abuse? Here on Earth.
Azcona covers incidents in this book concerning the falling of the Twin Towers, the bombing of embassies, war, and home child abuse. She shows the cruelty of these matters, but in this book, she does not focus solely on the horrific. She also writes poems that offer solutions to the state of world.
Azcona depicts scenes with a clarity that can only come from a good poet, and covers topics that can only come from a humanist. Her book is about post 9-11, hope, and anti-violence. Where does one find peace in today’s world? Here on Earth if everyone read Azcona’s poems and followed her philosophies.
